There are few foods more universally satisfying than a burger. But you don’t need to rely on fast food to get your fix. Here are six fancy burger restaurants in Cape Town and Joburg that local influencers Mmaketi Langa and Candice Bodington recommend.

1. Dukes Burgers, Melville

The Vibe This venue has inside and outside sitting areas, the latter being in their courtyard. Their choice to keep some of the building’s original features makes it industrial which fits with the restaurant’s brand.

Best For This is great for early dinner on a friend’s night out with drinks.

Must Order They have beef, chicken and lamb burger options. The Dooms Day Burger with its freshly cut chips is pure *heaven*.

2. 011 Gin-Eatery, Sandton

The Vibe There is indoor and outside seating. Outdoors you also get amazing views. There are often DJs on sight playing amazing jams and the food and cocktails are delish.

Best For This place is great to get sundowners or watch a match with your squad.

Must Order The eatery has a minimal but diverse menu to cater to and satisfy every taste. My go-to is their lamb burger. Yum!

3. Salvation Cafe, Milpark

The Vibe This place has three different sitting areas and all of them have their own unique vibe, from Parisian to industrial.

Best For Any type of occasion, from remote working to brunch with your loved ones.

Must Order They have a small range of burger options, and they all taste really good but, at the end of the day, the Salvation Gourmet Burger is the clear winner here.

1. Free Bird, various locations around Cape Town

The Vibe It's a fast-growing burger chain that has the look and feel of a classic ‘80s diner and has the soul of your favourite grandma’s kitchen. There really is love in that chicken!

Best For I love this place because you are never disappointed – consistency is key!

Must Order The original Free Bird Burger with a side of fries and Free Lemonade to wash it all down.

2. Fable Cocktail Bar, City Centre

The Vibe One of the hottest cocktail spots in Cape Town, the food is as memorable as their award-winning drinks. Think American-style dishes with an elevated twist (and options for meat and plant-based eaters).

Best For If you want to go on a fancy night out for drinks and snacks, this is it.

Must Order The Cadillac Burger, which comes with a “thicc patty” on a brioche bun with a bourbon reduction.

3. Blanko, Constantia

The Vibe It’s situated at The Alphen Boutique Hotel & Spa in the leafy southern suburbs, offering a tranquil and elegant break from the city centre. You can even grab a massage before you eat!

Best For If you are looking for a sophisticated setting. Date night, anyone?

Must Order The House Burger comes with provolone, aioli and caramelised onions and a side of crispy fries.
