There are so many exciting trends emerging in fashion this year. One trend, which isn’t necessarily new but is defs here to stay, is voluminous silhouettes.

Maybe there has been some influence from the post-pandemic fashion trend of oversized clothing? What covid taught us is that comfort and versatility is key. Or perhaps we’re seeing traces of a recurring ‘80s and ‘90s vibe with a modern twist? Either way, I am absolutely here for it!

Here are my essential items to take your voluminous silhouettes to bigger and better new shapes.

1. Oversized Shirts

Oversized shirts were cool in the ‘90s and are even cooler now that they’re back. They create this magical contrast of giving you a powerful boxy silhouette while remaining flowy and effortless. To maximise the vibe, try doing up just two or three buttons in the middle of the shirt. Pair this with oversized trousers and you’ve got yourself the ultimate #bossbabe look.

2. Boxy Blazers

Need an excuse to add more blazers to your wardrobe? Well, consider this as your sign. The boxy blazer screams modern sophistication and is sure to elevate literally any and every look. Whether you’re rocking jeans and a tight tee or going full-on power suit, the boxy blazer will be your new bestie. Try her over a mini dress too – super cute!

3. Baggy Jeans

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, this ‘90s trend – popularised by hip-hop culture – has made a *major* comeback. Except this time it’s with a refined 21st-century flair that makes for elevated street style; something which we’ve seen on some of our favourite celebs this year. Let’s just say, if they’re good enough for Hailey Biebs, they’re good enough for us too.

4. Statement Trench Coats

The trench coat, originally created for wartime soldiers, made it into mainstream fashion and is considered a timeless and must-have wardrobe staple. A classic black or camel trench always looks chic and never goes out of style. But this year we’re living for statement trench coats that serve as the highlight of your outfit.

5. Puffed Sleeves

Nothing makes a statement or creates a voluminous silhouette quite like a puffed sleeve. This feminine and youthful sleeve finish is having a moment and has been spotted all over the international runways. Be brave and opt for a large sleeve to make your puff-sleeve moment a memorable one. Because when it comes to this trend, the bigger the better.
